From October 5 to 11, 2009 the SCHLINGEL ruled the CineStar Luxor Film Palast in Chemnitz. 10,000 visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a week of fantastic festival atmosphere. The newest films from all over the world competed for the treasured prizes. 118 films from 39 countries were presented to the audience and provided them with exciting, interesting and entertaining film minutes.
THE WINNERS 2009
S - Children’s Film Competition
The Russian film BOOK OF MASTERS by Vadim Sokolovsky was honoured with the EUROPEAN CHILDREN‘S FILM AWARD (5,000 Euros) endowed by “Saechsisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst“ (Saxon State Ministry of Science and Arts).
Chun-Kai Wu won the DIAMOND – a bike manufactured at “Diamant-Fahrradwerke“ in Hartmannsdorf/Saxony – for his effort as Ah-Ming Goo in the Taiwanese production COLOURFUL MIND (CHILDREN‘S SKY).
The CHEMNITZ TOP AWARD (5,000 Euros) was given to the Dutch film FROGS & TOADS directed by Simone van Dusseldorp.
M - Junior Competition
Director Jesper W. Nielsen was the winner of the closing ceremony evening. In the Junior Film Competition even two awards went to Norway. His movie THROUGH A GLASS, DARKLY was awarded with the TOP AWARD (4,000 Euros) in this category and the JUNIOR FILM AWARD (1,000 Euros).
L - Youth Film Competition
The CINESTAR YOUTH FILM AWARD (1,000 Euros) by “Greater Union Filmpalast GmbH“ for the best youth film went to THE CHILD AND THE ANGEL by Masoud Naghashzadeh.
D - Focus Germany
The DEFA FOUNDATION AWARD (4,000 Euros) was given to the German production NO FEAR by Aelrun Goette.
XS - Short and Animation Film Competition
The SHORT FILM AWARD was given to the Spanish movie A BETTER LIFE by Luis Fernández Reneo. The ANIMATION FILM AWARD went to Dennis Tscherwjatsow for his film MASHA AND THE BEAR - HOW THEY MET.
Other Awards
The winner of the AUDIENCE AWARD endowed by “Lichtenauer Mineralquellen GmbH“ was chosen by the spectators from all films screened during the entire festival week. Here the Canadian producer William Fruet was awarded for his movie PRODIGY.
The FAIR PLAY AWARD went to the film especially commited to children and youth problems. In 2009 it was awarded to the German director Aelrun Goette with her movie NO FEAR.
Special tribute was paid to CHRISTEL AND HANS STROBEL - the editors of the expert publication “Kinder- und Jugendfilm Korrespondenz”
(Children’s and Youth Films Correspondence) - for their exceptional commitment with regard to German children’s and youth film. The SCHLINGEL AWARD ceremony took place on Thursday, 8 October 2009 in the Gunzenhauser Museum in Chemnitz.
